Cold Storage and Cross-Dock Support Brisbane — Staging and Consolidation Around Your Transport

Short-term chilled or frozen staging and cross-docking, arranged through partner facilities as part of a transport job. Ask us about availability before you plan around it.

We arrange short-term chilled or frozen staging and cross-docking in the Brisbane area through partner facilities, as part of a transport job we are running for you. We do not operate our own warehouse and we do not sell pallet storage by the week, so the first step is always to ask us what is available.

Think of it as support around transport. Freight sometimes has to stop between pickup and delivery: to wait for a delivery slot, to meet other freight, or to change vehicles. Our job is to make that stop happen cold, with the handover recorded.

We do not publish storage rates, because we are not running the facility and the cost depends on the site, the temperature, the pallet count and how long the freight sits. If staging is part of a job, it is priced into the quote for that job.

When staging or cross-docking is useful

  • Overflow during peak. Your own cool room is full and the next delivery is already on its way.
  • Multi-supplier consolidation. Three suppliers each have a few pallets for the same customer, and one delivery is better than three.
  • Inbound-then-outbound runs. Freight arrives on a linehaul vehicle and goes out on smaller trucks for local delivery.
  • A gap between pickup and delivery. The supplier needs the stock gone today and the receiver’s booked slot is tomorrow.

Each of these is a transport problem first. If a direct run solves it, we will suggest that, because the simplest cold chain is one with no stops in it.

How cross-docking works for chilled and frozen freight

In a cross-dock, freight comes off one vehicle and goes onto another with little or no storage in between. A semi-trailer from a regional supplier might be split across smaller trucks for Brisbane metro delivery, or several part loads might be combined onto one vehicle.

With cold freight, the risk is the time pallets spend out of refrigeration. Industry guidance allows frozen food about 60 minutes in a cool anteroom during handling, and ice cream only 20 minutes. So the outbound vehicle is pre-cooled and waiting before the inbound one opens its doors.

If your consolidated load has both chilled and frozen pallets, it may suit a multi-temperature vehicle for the delivery leg. Our guide to part-load refrigerated pallet freight explains how shared loads are planned.

Keeping the cold chain recorded at each handover

Every extra handover is a place where temperature can be lost and responsibility can blur. Industry guidance is that each link in the chain records the product temperature on receipt, keeps an air temperature log, and records the product temperature again on delivery.

On our side, product temperature is read with a calibrated probe and recorded at pickup and at delivery, and the readings are kept on file. Ask for them with your proof of delivery. Dispatch sends SMS or email updates at pickup, in transit and at delivery.

What to tell us when you enquire

  1. What the product is, and whether it is chilled or frozen.
  2. The temperature specification set by the product owner.
  3. The pallet count, with heights and weights.
  4. Where the freight is coming from and when it arrives.
  5. Where it is going, and any booked delivery slot.
  6. How long it needs to be held, if at all.
  7. Any receiving or labelling rules at the final destination.

With that we can work out the vehicles for each leg. A consolidated load may be anything from a small truck with 2–4 pallets to a semi-trailer with 22–24. The fleet page lists each class.

Questions worth asking about any cold storage facility

Whoever holds your product, you are entitled to know how. These are fair questions to put to us about a partner site, and to any operator you approach yourself:

  • What temperature is the room held at, and is it logged?
  • Is product probed on the way in and on the way out?
  • How long do pallets sit on the dock during a transfer?
  • What food safety documents does the site currently hold?
  • Who do I call if something goes wrong?

Our own handling routines are HACCP-aligned. If your customer requires specific certificates from every site in the chain, tell us at the start so we can check before you commit. Our list of food safety questions for your carrier is a useful companion.

Areas we cover around a cross-dock

The transport either side can run anywhere we operate: Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and regional Queensland on planned services. Which facility is used depends on the route and what is available, and we confirm that at quote. For a quick answer, use the contact page or phone between 8am and 8pm.

  1. Q01
    Service

Do you have a cold storage warehouse in Brisbane?

No. We do not operate our own warehouse. We arrange short-term chilled or frozen staging and cross-docking through partner facilities when a transport job needs it. What is available, and where, depends on the timing and the load, so we confirm it when we quote your job.

  2. Q02
    Service

How much does cold storage cost per pallet in Brisbane?

We do not publish a pallet rate, because we are not a public cold store. When staging is part of a transport job, its cost is included in the quote for that job and depends on the temperature, the pallet count and how long the freight is held.

  3. Q03
    Service

What is cross-docking in refrigerated transport?

Cross-docking means moving freight from one vehicle to another with little or no storage in between. A large inbound load can be split across smaller trucks for local delivery, or several small loads combined into one. For chilled and frozen freight the transfer has to be quick and temperature-controlled.

  4. Q04
    Service

Can you store frozen pallets for a few days until my customer can receive them?

Possibly. Short-term staging is arranged through partner facilities and depends on space at the time, so we cannot promise it in advance. Tell us the pallet count, the temperature and the dates, and we will check availability and confirm before you commit to the delivery.

  5. Q05
    Service

Can you combine freight from several suppliers into one refrigerated delivery?

Yes, multi-supplier consolidation is one of the main uses of this service. We need each supplier’s pickup details, pallet count and temperature, plus the delivery booking. Chilled and frozen pallets for the same customer can travel together on a multi-temperature vehicle where the load suits it.
