Refrigerated Transport Brisbane — Markets, Industrial Estates and Inner-City Drops
Brisbane is our home base. We run chilled, frozen and fresh produce freight between the markets, the industrial estates, the port precinct and inner-city kitchens, on vehicles from a one-pallet van to a semi-trailer.
Ramdas QLD is a family-owned refrigerated transport operator based in Brisbane, so the metro area is our home ground. We move chilled, frozen and fresh produce freight between the city’s wholesale market, industrial estates, port precinct and hospitality districts, on vehicles from a one-pallet refrigerated van up to a 22–24 pallet semi-trailer. Exact pickup and delivery addresses are confirmed when we quote.
Where Brisbane’s cold freight starts and finishes
Brisbane Markets at Rocklea is Queensland’s central fruit and vegetable wholesale market, and a lot of the city’s fresh freight passes through or near it. Around it and out to the south-west runs an industrial belt — Acacia Ridge, Archerfield, Coopers Plains, Salisbury, Richlands and Wacol — where a lot of the city’s pallet freight is collected and delivered.
Towards the river mouth, the Australia TradeCoast area around Lytton, Hemmant, Pinkenba and Eagle Farm handles freight connected to the Port of Brisbane. On the northside we run to and from estates such as Brendale, Geebung, Virginia, Northgate and Banyo.
The last group is hospitality: restaurants, cafes, hotels and caterers in the CBD, Fortitude Valley, South Brisbane and West End. These are usually small orders, and the freight is rarely the hard part. Access is.
Getting a refrigerated vehicle into the CBD and inner suburbs
Inner-city venues often receive through a laneway, a kerbside loading zone or a basement dock. A truck that suits a Rocklea warehouse may not fit any of them. Before we allocate a vehicle for an inner-city drop, it helps to know:
- How the venue receives — laneway, kerbside loading zone, basement dock or front door.
- Any height or length limit on the dock or car park entry.
- The receiving window — many kitchens want stock in before service starts.
- Who signs for it, and a mobile number that will be answered.
- How far the goods travel on foot from the vehicle to the cool room or freezer.
That last point matters for temperature as much as for labour. A long walk through a hot car park is time out of refrigeration.
Matching the vehicle to the Brisbane drop
| Delivery | Vehicle that typically suits | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cafe, restaurant or small retailer in the CBD, Valley or West End | Refrigerated van — 1 pallet equivalent, up to 1 tonne | Fits loading zones, laneways and low entries |
| A run of several small drops | Small truck — 2–4 pallets | Room for a few receivers without a large footprint |
| Wholesaler or manufacturer in Rocklea, Acacia Ridge or Brendale | Medium truck (6–10 pallets) or large truck (12–14 pallets) | Dock access and enough pallet spaces for a part or full load |
| Port-precinct or distribution centre loads | Semi-trailer — 22–24 pallets | Full loads between sites built for articulated vehicles |
| Chilled and frozen for the same receiver | Multi-temperature vehicle | Two zones separated by a movable bulkhead |
The full list of vehicle classes is on our fleet page. If one order includes both chilled and frozen lines, ask about multi-temperature transport rather than booking two vehicles.
Keeping temperature through a multi-drop metro run
A metro run is short on distance and long on door openings, and every opening lets warm air in. Queensland summers add to that heat load at docks and doorways. Good practice under the Australian Cold Chain Guidelines is to keep doors closed between drops and switch the refrigeration unit off while they are open.
A refrigerated vehicle holds the temperature product is loaded at; it is not built to chill warm product down. So stock needs to be at temperature before it leaves your cool room. We pre-cool the vehicle before loading, and read and record calibrated probe temperatures at pickup and at delivery. Those readings are kept on file and available with the proof of delivery on request.
At the other end, the Food Standards Code guidance for receivers is simple: chilled potentially hazardous food should arrive at 5°C or below, and frozen food should be frozen hard.
Booking a Brisbane run
Send the pickup and delivery suburbs, what the product is, its required temperature, the number of pallets or cartons, and any receiving windows. We reply to quote requests within 24 hours, and often the same day for routine metro routes.
Urgent jobs are handled as same-day and express work, subject to dispatch availability on the day; our guide to same-day refrigerated couriers in Brisbane explains what affects that. Freight heading south of the city usually passes through Logan, which we also run to and from.
Q01
ServiceDo you deliver refrigerated freight into the Brisbane CBD and Fortitude Valley?
Yes, these are areas we run refrigerated freight to and from. Inner-city drops usually go on a refrigerated van or small truck because of laneway, loading-zone and basement access, so tell us how the venue receives when you ask for a quote.
Q02
ServiceCan you collect from Brisbane Markets at Rocklea?
Rocklea is an area we move fresh produce to and from. Give us the collection point, the receiver and the volume, and we will confirm the vehicle and timing when we quote.
Q03
ServiceWhere is your Brisbane depot?
We are based in Brisbane and collect from your site rather than asking you to drop freight to us. If your freight needs to be held or cross-docked, that is arranged through partner cold storage facilities and confirmed at quote.
Q04
ServiceCan I get a refrigerated pickup in Brisbane today?
Sometimes. Same-day work in Brisbane depends on which vehicles dispatch has available and where they are, so the quickest way to find out is to phone or send the job details through the quote form.
