Refrigerated Transport Logan — Pallet Freight for Distribution Centres and Food Manufacturers
Logan sits between Brisbane and the Gold Coast where the M1 meets the Logan Motorway. We run chilled and frozen pallet freight to and from its distribution centres, wholesalers and food manufacturers.
We run refrigerated pallet freight to and from Logan, the city between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Most of the cold freight here is business-to-business: pallets moving between food manufacturers, wholesalers and distribution centres, usually dock to dock and usually against a booked delivery time.
A distribution hub between two cities
Logan’s position is the reason it handles so much freight. The M1 Pacific Motorway and the Logan Motorway meet here, giving road access north into Brisbane, south to the Gold Coast and west towards Ipswich without crossing the city.
Industrial and logistics precincts have grown up around that junction at Berrinba, Crestmead, Browns Plains, Park Ridge, Kingston, Slacks Creek, Meadowbrook and Loganholme. Beenleigh sits at the southern end, with the Yatala industrial area just beyond it on the Gold Coast side.
Booking into distribution centres: time slots and paperwork
Many distribution centres receive by appointment, and a truck that arrives without the right reference can be sent away. Give us this before the pickup, not on the day:
- The delivery booking — date, time slot and reference number, if the receiver issues one.
- Pallet details — count, height and approximate weight of each.
- The temperature specification set by the product owner.
- Receiving rules — pallet type, labelling, and any paperwork the dock expects.
- A contact at each end who can answer a phone if the plan changes.
A business that consigns or receives goods by heavy vehicle is a party in the Chain of Responsibility under the Heavy Vehicle National Law. The practical meaning is to book slots that leave realistic travel time, and to declare weights accurately.
Expect receivers to check temperature. FSANZ’s guide to the Food Standards Code gives the example of asking to see the truck’s temperature data logger, if it has one, and probing a sample. We read and record calibrated probe temperatures at pickup and delivery, and can supply them with the proof of delivery on request.
Part loads, consolidation and cross-dock freight
Not every consignment is a full truck. A few pallets can travel as a part load, sharing a vehicle with compatible freight; our guide to part-load refrigerated pallet freight explains how that is planned.
Where freight needs to be held, consolidated or transferred between vehicles, we arrange cold storage and cross-docking through partner facilities. We do not operate our own warehouse, so availability and location are confirmed at quote.
Pallet counts, vehicle sizes and mixed-temperature loads
| Vehicle | Typical capacity | Common Logan use |
|---|---|---|
| Small truck | 2–4 pallets | Top-up orders and small wholesalers |
| Medium truck | 6–10 pallets | Part loads between estates |
| Large truck | 12–14 pallets | Manufacturer to distribution centre |
| Semi-trailer | 22–24 pallets | Full loads on the motorway network |
| Multi-temperature trailer | Split zones | Chilled and frozen pallets on one booking |
These figures assume the standard 1165 × 1165 mm Australian pallet. Height and weight both limit a load, and chilled or frozen food usually cannot be double-stacked, so a tall or heavy pallet can change which vehicle is needed.
For orders with both chilled and frozen lines, a multi-temperature vehicle uses a movable bulkhead to hold two zones, with frozen product nearest the evaporator. Industry guidance is chilled food never warmer than 5°C and frozen never warmer than −18°C.
Requesting a Logan quote
Send the pickup and delivery suburbs, pallet count and dimensions, product temperature and any booked time slot. We reply within 24 hours, often the same day for routine routes. If the freight is coming from or going to Brisbane, say so and we will quote the whole movement.
Q01
ServiceCan you deliver chilled or frozen pallets into a distribution centre in Berrinba or Crestmead?
Yes, these precincts are areas we run refrigerated freight to and from. We need the delivery booking details and the receiver’s requirements up front, and we confirm the exact site at quote.
Q02
ServiceDo you have a cold store in Logan?
We do not operate our own warehouse. Cold storage and cross-docking are arranged through partner facilities, and we confirm what is available and where when we quote.
Q03
ServiceCan you take a part load of two or three refrigerated pallets from Logan?
Usually, either on a small truck or sharing space on a larger vehicle. It depends on the destination, the temperature and what else is moving, so send the details and we will tell you how we would carry it.
Q04
ServiceCan chilled and frozen pallets travel on the same truck?
Yes, on a multi-temperature vehicle, which keeps the two in separate zones behind a movable bulkhead. Tell us the pallet split between chilled and frozen so the zones can be set up correctly.
